Face Transplant Patient Connie Culp 2 Years After Her Revolutionary Surgery
America's first face transplant patient Connie Culp has set out on her second chance on life after her ground breaking surgery. Culp's former husband, Thomas G. "Tom" Culp in a failed murder suicide attempt when he shot her in the face on 2004, destroying her nose, shattering her cheeks and shutting off most of her vision. he underwent 30 operations prior to the face transplant on December 10, 2008. Surgeon Maria Siemionow led a team of doctors in a 22-hour operation which replaced 80 percent of Culp's face with the face from another woman who had recently died. Now seven years after her ordeal Connie is finally getting her life back.
